Sacred Animals of the Andes: Teachings from the Q'ero Tradition
Sacred Animals of the Andes: Teachings from the Q'ero Tradition
Join us for a four-part online teaching series guided by our Andean paqo teachers, Victor Chura Quispe and Celia Samata Apaza, as we explore the hampi huywa — the healing animals of the Q’ero tradition of Peru.
Within the Andean cosmovision, human beings exist in relationship with the natural world and the many forms of life with whom we share it. Animals hold a meaningful place within this understanding, carrying teachings that invite us to deepen our awareness of the world around us and our place within it. Through the wisdom of the sacred animals, we are invited to explore the relationships between the natural world, the spiritual dimensions of life, and our own path of growth and understanding.
Over four gatherings, Victor and Celia will share teachings from the Andean tradition, inviting us to explore the hampi huywa and the significance of the sacred animals within the Q’ero cosmovision. Through their knowledge and guidance, we will have the opportunity to learn about these animal beings, explore the wisdom they carry, and deepen our relationship with the living world through the lens of Andean teachings.

Why These Teachings Matter:
The Andean tradition offers a way of understanding life through relationship — with the Earth, the mountains, the waters, and the many beings with whom we share this world. The teachings of the sacred animals invite us to listen more deeply, to recognize the wisdom present in the natural world, and to consider how we might live in greater awareness of these relationships.
Through the guidance of Q’ero paq’os, this series offers an opportunity to learn from a living tradition and explore the ways its teachings can inform our own understanding of connection, reciprocity, and our place within the greater web of life.
